The new has just made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2018.

Kia’s quirky compact crossover has been given a number of updates ahead of it going on sale next year.

Firstly, it is now powered by a 64 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack which the car manufacturer claims gives it “vastly improved range” compared to the outgoing model.

The carmaker has yet to confirm how many miles it will be able to cover on a single charge but it could be assumed that it will be between 150-200 miles, but the carmaker says it will confirm the car’s range in early 2019.

A Combined Charging System (CCS) DC fast-charger, is fitted as standard, which allows for more rapid charging.

It has also been given more power with 204PS and 395Nm of torque which is 110Nm more than the outgoing model.

A new fully independent rear suspension is also said to improve the car’s handling and driving dynamics.

Dynamics and battery consumption can also be controlled by four different driving models – Eco, Comfort, Sport and Eco+ – which automatically adjust power output to the traction motor.

They also modify the level of regenerative braking, air conditioning and heating and let driver set speed limits.

The car’s regenerative braking is operated via paddle shifters behind the steering wheel and the Brake and Hold system will allow the car to be brought to a complete halt using it, all the while harvesting kinetic energy which is converted into extra range.

Its design is true to previous generation Souls. It features the same typical boxy design which will be forever divisive but features a number of different elements to help distinguish it from the previous generation.

It has restyled front and rear bumpers, a solid insert instead of a front grille, which also houses the charging port on one side.

The car’s headlights are also now mounted into the ‘upper brow’ at the front of the car.

Inside the car is a 10.25-inch colour touchscreen with rear-view monitor and parking guidance, which is also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is also Bluetooth compatible and can be controlled using voice commands.

It has been equipped with a number of advanced driver assistance systems. Available systems include Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind Spot Collision Warning (BSW), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (available) and Reverse Parking Distance Warning.

A new telematics system has been introduced which allows owners to monitor and control a long range of vehicle operations.

Drivers have access to notifications of battery and charging status, real-time charging station updates and scheduled charging functionality.

There are two different twin levels for the car – Soul Ev and Soul EV Designer Collection. The Designer Collections offers all the same trim as the Soul Ev edition but adds a number of additional features.

These include a two-tone exterior paint scheme, as well as power-folding heated, power-adjustable door mirrors with signal repeater, finished in gloss-black.

Inside, Designer Collection models feature a 10-speaker Harman-Kardon premium audio system with external amplifier, a wireless phone charger and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

Kia will build the car at the Gwangju plant in Korea. It goes on sale in the US and Europe in the first half of 2019

Information regarding the all-New Soul EV’s price, specification and on-sale date in the UK will be distributed later in 2019.
